Joseph Romeo Champagne, 69, of 207 River Road, Berlin, formerly of Leominster, died yesterday in Braemoor West Nursing Home, Marlboro, after an illness.
He was a truck driver for Porter Transportation Co. in Fitchburg for 20 years, retiring in 1979.
Mr. Champagne was a U.S. Army verteran of World War II serving in the Pacific.
He was a member of St. Joseph the Good Provider Church and Local 170, Teamster Union, in Worcester.
He leaves his wife, Hazel Louise (Lynas) Champagne; two daughters, Shirley M. Jeznach of Northboro, and Cynthia A. Geldart of Berlin; a brother, Roland Champagne of Milford, N.H.; four grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces.
He was born in Greenville, N.H., son of Moise and Odelide (Caron) Champagne, and lived 20 years in Leominster before moving to Berlin five years ago.
The funeral will be held tomorrow from Merrill-Carleton Funeral Home, 1 Pleasant St., Hudson, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph the Good Provider Church, West Street. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
