Richard Bergeron,99,of Oakham and Worcester, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 29,2025 in Christopher House of Worcester. He was born in Berlin, NH on December 9, 1925, to Sophie (La Francois) and Honore Bergeron. He came from a large family of 11 siblings.Richard was married to Arlene (Durant) for 66 years until she passed away in 2014. They raised their family in Worcester and lived in Oakham, MA for over 40 years. Richard is survived by his son, Richard Bergeron Jr. and his wife Tina of Nalcrest, FL; daughter, Diane Croteau and her husband, Gene of Auburn, MA; son, Michael Bergeron and his wife Ann of Mountain City,TN and a daughter, Christine Carter and her husband, Edward, of Fancy Gap, VA; 13 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Throughout his long life, Richard was known for his service to his country, his artistic talents, and his love of the outdoors. He was a WWII US Navy Veteran —Merchant Marines (First class Seaman), enlisted from 1943-1946. He was a lifelong painter/paper hanger (Local 48) in Worcester, MA. Richard created exceptional artwork including landscapes, portraits, and animals. He loved oil painting, charcoal, and pastel drawings and made frames for all of his artwork. He created hundreds of pieces, including a life size wooden moose, stone and wood carvings, wooden ships, canoes, and boats. He taught many of his grandchildren to draw, paint, and create furniture. Richard was meticulous and detailed in his work. He was very blessed in his ability to create just about anything with his hands. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, archery, gardening, making stone fireplaces, stone walls, fences, and sheds. He also loved watching hockey and boxing and was a welterweight boxer in his younger years. Richard loved playing pool (and winning), making furniture, and spending time with his grandchildren. The funeral for Richard will be held on Saturday, April 5,2025 with a graveside service at 10:30AM in Worcester County Memorial Park Richards Ave Paxton,MA.with full military honors.
