Lorraine J. (Gallant) Fontaine, 96, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 in The Christopher House after an illness. Mrs. Fontaine was married for 65 years to her loving husband Richard P. “Bunny” Fontaine, who passed away in 2016. She is survived by 4 sons, Richard V. Fontaine and his longtime companion, Colleen O’Neil of Charlton, Barry S. Fontaine and his wife Lynne of Cranston, RI, David M. Fontaine of Paxton and Steven P. Fontaine and his wife Jo of Auburn; 3 daughters, Diane N. Kozakiewicz and her husband Michael of Rochester, NY, Nancy J. Sorenson of Charlton and Christine L. Case and her husband Daniel of Dennisport, MA; a sister, Jeaninne Laferte of Canton, MA; 14 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren along with many nephews and nieces. Lorraine was born in Lewiston, Maine, daughter of the late Edward J. and Diana M. (Lacroix) Gallant and is also predeceased by a daughter in law, Constance Fontaine; a son in law, William Sorenson; a grandchild, Emma Fontaine; two brothers, Lionel Gallant and Roger Gallant and her “Andy” her beloved Shih Tzu. Mrs. Fontaine worked as an office clerk for over 10 years with New England Engine Company and she previously worked at Flowers by Lorraine, Growing Place Day Care Center and the former Woolworth’s in her younger years. Along with working and raising her family, Lorraine also found time to work in the rectory of the former Our Lady of Fatima Church as it’s housekeeper. Lorraine was a founding member of the former Our Lady of Fatima Church and currently belonged to Our Lady of Providence Parish at Saint Bernard’s Church. She enjoyed rooting for her New York Jets, loved spending time in her flower gardens, decorating her home for the holidays and always looked forward to her vacations with her husband, especially to Old Orchard Beach and Florida. However, Lorraine always put her family above all and was always the happiest when she was able to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She and her husband always made it a priority to support and attend as many functions, sporting events and school activities that her grandchildren were taking part in. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 14 from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. with a Mass at 11 AM in St. Bernard Church 228 Lincoln St. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 13 from 4 to 7 PM in the funeral home. Memorial donations in memory of Mrs. Fontaine may be made to either Our Lady of Providence Parish 236 Lincoln Street Worcester, MA 01605 or to St. Jude Children Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105. The family would like to express their thanks to the Jewish Community Healthcare-Hospice team and the Christopher House staff in providing their support to Lorraine and the family in her final days. |
