Edward J. Richard, 99, of Worcester died Saturday, September 7th at home surrounded by his loving family. His wife of 57 years, Virginia “Ginger” Sullivan died in 2009. He leaves a son, Robert J. Richard and his wife, Lee of Gardner; a daughter, Paula Ann Sawicki with whom he lived; a son-in-law, Brian Smith of Worcester; five grandchildren, Mandy, Stephanie, Michael, Kerry Lee, and Patrick; nine great grandchildren including, Maxwell, Joshua, and Katelyn. He was predeceased by a daughter, Jeanne V. Smith and a son-in-law, Michael Sawicki. A lifelong resident of Worcester, he was a proud graduate of St. Peter’s High School and earned an Associate’s degree in Business Administration from Becker Junior College. Edward honorably served his country as a veteran of the United States Army Air Force where he worked as a mechanic, sparking his lifelong passion for planes and flying. After his service, he dedicated 38 years as a loan processor at Shawmut Bank, formerly known as Worcester National Bank and Worcester County Trust, retiring in 1990. A devout Catholic, Edward was a long-time member of Our Lady of the Angels Church. His community involvement extended to being a member of the Greendale Men’s Club, the WCNB 25-Year Club, and the American Legion Post 444. Above all, Edward treasured his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 18th from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 529 Park Avenue followed by his funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue, Paxton. |
