Evangelist Mother Lola B. (Scott) Webbs, 87, of Paxton was called home from labor to reward on Friday, April 5, 2024. She was surrounded by her loving family. Evangelist Webbs was the widow of the late Bishop Robert L. Webbs Sr., former prelate of The Greater New Hampshire Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction in the Church Of God In Christ and former pastor and founder of Mt. Sinai COGIC in Worcester; he preceded her on April 20, 2023; they were married for sixty-six years. Evangelist Webbs was born on February 23, 1937 in Greenville, Alabama to the late Stella (Rutherford) Scott-Shavers and the late Clifford Scott. She later moved to Springfield, MA in the early 1950s, where she met and married her late husband. They left Springfield to establish Mt. Sinai Church in 1965. She was known throughout New England as a church planter and was instrumental in the establishment of several churches throughout Massachusetts and New Hampshire. A prolific evangelist missionary, teacher and speaker at home and abroad, she evangelized maximum-security prisons throughout Massachusetts by leading Mt. Sinai’s prison ministry. Evangelist Webbs was also widely known in the community for building large choirs as a choir master and musician at Mt. Sinai. Evangelist Webbs traveled the mission fields and evangelized such places as Cuba, Brazil, Europe and Central America. She also evangelized a church established by her husband in the early 2000s in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. She mentored other members who traveled there with her to spread the gospel. For many years and up until she transitioned, Evangelist Webbs was a significant supporter of a ministry and community center in Cuba, where she will be greatly missed. Evangelist Webbs was a retired teacher from the Worcester Public Schools system. She inspired many when she went back to college and graduated magna cum laude from Worcester State College in 1984, earning a B.S. in Early Childhood Education with a minor in Spanish. She is survived by her three children: Pastor Robert L. Webbs Jr and his wife Jacqueline of Worcester; Sheryl Webbs of Paxton; Robin (Webbs) Montalvo and her husband Rafael of Jefferson. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren, Robert III, Chrysta, Corynne and Jordan. She also leaves her great-grandsons Estil and Xavier. Her sister Dorothy M. Williams of Springfield preceded her in 2021. Evangelist Webbs also leaves behind 5 nephews and nieces, and countless spiritual sons and daughters from her church family at Mt. Sinai, the Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction and her various ministries. Services will be held at Grace Community Christian Center on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. The visitation is at 10 am and the homegoing celebration is at 11 am. Interment will immediately follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. |
