James Brendan O’Donnell Jr, 74, of Brookfield, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, Sunday, March 3. He was born in Worcester to the late James B. and Rita E. (Mailea) O’Donnell. James was predeceased by his younger sister Rita (O’Donnell) Lauzon. James is survived by his amazing wife of 40 years, Elizabeth J. (Lara) O’Donnell; two beautiful daughters Kristian, of Rutland and Kayla O’Donnell of Brookfield; his adoring grandson and best friend, Landen James Mohr who he spent his days with. James leaves his oldest sister Ann-Marie Iannotta of Auburn, and Patricia Castillo of Millbury and many nieces and nephews. James worked for 32 years as a mental health worker at the former Worcester State Hospital. Early in his life James was an E5 in the National Guard. He also owned two taxi cabs operating in the city. He enjoyed the outdoors amongst the scenic beauty of Quaboag Pond. Before losing his eyesight he loved mowing the lawn and fixing things around the house and yard. He loved spending time with his family and especially loved spending time with his grandson/buddy watching tv and playing checkers. The family would like to thank the staff, doctors and nurses at the Overlook Masonic Home’s PAU in Charlton, Ma. and Harrington Physicians Services in Spencer, Ma. For all their hard work and dedication for his care. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, March 10th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral will be held on Monday, March 11th at 10 a.m. with a Mass in St. Stephen’s Church, 357 Grafton St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in James’s name to the Brookfield Medical Services EMS/Fire Department. |
