ANDREW CASIMIR FRYC

     Andrew C. Fryc, 65 of 255 Millbury St. was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Vincent Hospital after being stricken at home.

He leaves his wife , Alice (Zaterka) Fryc; two sons, Andrew R. Fryc of Worcester and Walter R. Fryc of Riverside, Calif; a daughter, Mrs. Elaine T. McKay of Worcester; three sisters Helen, wife of Bronislaw Sidur, and Stella,  wife of Edward Podlovits, both of Holyoke, Mrs. Alice Zawisa in New Jersey, and Caroline Maychrovicz who predeceased him, and five grandchildren.

He was born in Holyoke, the only son of Marcin and Mary (Klimczak) Fryc, and lived there 30 years before moving to Worcester in 1942.  His father Marcin was born in the Ukraine and lived from 1876 to 1953, and his mother Mary was born in Poland and lived from 1885 to 1966.

When living in Holyoke as a young man he was a milk delivery boy, a busboy at a hotel, and a Merchant Marine on the Great Lakes.  He met his wife Alice Zaterka in Holoke, they were married in 1935, and they were married until his death 42 years.   They had two children while living in Holyoke Elaine Fryc McKay and Andrew Robert Fryc.  One child Walter Richard Fryc was born in Worcester.

Mr. Fryc was a member of the United Steelworkers of America, AFL-CIO.

Before retiring in 1970 he was a wire tester at Thompson Steel Co., Inc until he was diabled when he was 58 years old, from Rheumatoid Arthritis. 

He had many interests; playing cards, doing picture puzzles, bowling, trips to the ocean, eating out and dancing with his wife Alice,  helping his children, and helping to support his mother.

God gave Andy many chances at life:  he fell off a milk delivery truck and punctured his ear drum, he was swept overboard from a frieghter on the Great Lakes and rescued, and he was in a car that went off a bridge into the Conneticutt River in Holyoke and rescued.

His missions on earth completed at age 65 – God called him home…

The funeral will be held Saturday from Alexander Memorial Chapel, 52 Ward St. , with a Mass at 9 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.

Calling hours at funeral home are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.

The family requests flowers be omitted.

Memorial contributions may be made instead to the Worcester Rehabilitation Center, Lincoln Plaza.
