Mary A. (Carpenter) Hanrahan, 92, died at Notre Dame du Lac on Sunday, October 9, 2022. Her husband of 56 years, Martin Hanrahan, died in 2010. She leaves three children, Edward M. Hanrahan and his wife Joan of Rutland Town, Vt., Maureen E. Hamel and her husband Paul of Hampstead, N.C., Joseph M. Hanrahan and his wife Cathleen of Worcester and daughter-in-law Cynthia Hanrahan of North Brookfield; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey and Erin Hanrahan, David and Colin Hamel, Kelly Yonnone and Sean Hanrahan, and Lauren Kambouris and Michael Hanrahan; and seven great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sister, Sister Helen Carpenter M.M., and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Brian P. Hanrahan of North Brookfield. Mary was also predeceased by her sister Rita V. Murphy, and six brothers, Joseph, known as Carmelite Brother Norbert, Edward, George, Thomas, John, and James Carpenter. Mary was born in Worcester, daughter of Edward J. and Helen (O’Rourke) Carpenter. She graduated from North High School and Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing. After nursing school, Mary was a registered nurse on the staff at the Rutland Veterans Administration Hospital. She worked part-time at City Hospital while raising her children. From 1973 through 1990, she worked for the City Health Department as a public health nurse and a school nurse. She was a founding member of St. Christopher’s Parish. She was a member of the Guild of Our Lady of Providence, and the North High School and City Hospital School of Nursing alumni associations. She was a board member of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Nurses and volunteered at Summit Elder Care. Mary enjoyed her time with her family and many winters in St. Petersburg, Fla. Calling hours are Friday, October 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral will be held Saturday, October 15, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Christopher’s Church, 950 West Boylston St., Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
