Virginia L. (Doucette) Ross, 89, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, June 16, 2021. She was born and raised in Dorchester, the daughter of Walter R. and Mary E. (McCann) Doucette and had lived in Rutland for many years. Virginia graduated from Monsignor Ryan Memorial High School in Dorchester. While in the Boston area Virginia fell in love with a WWII Veteran who was studying at the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology, Vincent Ross. The couple married in 1950 and lived in Springfield before moving to Shrewsbury where they lived for over 30 years. They then moved to Rutland where they remained for over 42 years. Virginia devoted herself to raising her children and taking care of her home for many years. After her children were grown she worked in several offices locally before retiring in 1994. She was a devout member of St. Patrick’s Church in Rutland and enjoyed reading and cooking. Virginia truly appreciated the time she spent with her close friends and neighbors at Maple Brook Condominium Complex in Rutland. She was always there to listen when someone needed to confide in her and could give only loving advice when it was warranted. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Virginia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Vincent Ross in 2019. She will be lovingly missed and remembered by her sons, Vincent Ross and his fiancée, Terry May of Ridgeway, SC and Christopher Ross and his wife, Lee of Rutland; her daughters, Ellen Ross; Kathleen Healy of Worcester; Jeanette Hoch and her husband, Robert of Rutland; nine grandsons; two great granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Theresa Bell; her brothers, John J. Doucette and Walter R. Doucette; and her sisters, Marguerite Svenson, Mary Kelley and Julia Bowes. Virginia’s family would like to express their gratitude toward Virginia’s personal care aide, Dinah for the wonderful care and companionship she shared with Virginia.
