Mary E. (O’Gara) Mahan, 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 31, 2021 at UMass Medical Center. She was born in Worcester on September 10, 1929 a daughter of the late Thomas Gleeson O’Gara and Ethel Florence Holt. She was raised in Worcester and was a graduate of South High School class of 1947. She went on to earn her diploma from the former Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing and then began a career there as a Registered Nurse in the ER which spanned over forty years. She was the beloved wife of Kenneth F. Mahan whom she was married to for over 70 years. She and her husband enjoyed many years of camping at Coldbrook Campground in Barre, and Bourne Scenic Park on Cape Cod and in later years they owned a house in Brewster. She also enjoyed antiquing and visiting yard sales to see what she could find and in her spare time, doing puzzles. Above all she cherished time spent with her family and they will miss her dearly. She leaves behind her husband of 70 years, Kenneth F. Mahan; their children, Thomas Mahan and his wife, Janice of Virginia, James K. Mahan and his wife, Sarah of Holden, Susan Brennan and her husband, Stephen of Worcester and Kenneth E. Mahan, husband of the late Helena Mahan, of Auburn; her grandchildren, Meghan, Michael, Matthew, Maura, Thomas, Cecilia and Kenny, Jr. and her step grandchildren, Richard, Russell, Ruth and Joyce; She also leaves behind seven great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her brothers, Edward F. O’Gara and John H. “Jack” O’Gara. Family and friends will celebrate her life with visiting hours on Sunday, June 6th from 2:00pm until 4:00pm at the Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am on Monday, June 7th at St. Peter’s Church, 929 Main St., Worcester. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
