Lawrence E. Behr, 96, formerly of Heritage Village, Southbury, CT died Sunday, December 20, 2020. He was predeceased by his wife of 31 years, Helen (Kass) Behr in 1990, his longtime companion Elaine M. Duval in 2008 and most recently, his sister, Norma G. Gottlieb of River Edge, NJ on December 1, 2020. He was born in Bronx, NY, the son of the late Henry and Ruth (Hirschberg) Behr and graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and Brooklyn College. He was a Coast Guard Veteran of World War II stationed in the Pacific and he also served as a Jr. Officer in the Merchant Marine. Larry worked at Weldotron Corporation in Piscataway, NJ for 28 years as Sales Manager and later as Corporate Spokesman, retiring in 1990. He was also once employed as a Control Technician of the B-52 Bomber project at Sperry Corporation. Larry was an avid sailor and in earlier years a pilot as well. He was a volunteer ambulance driver at Heritage Village, a radio broadcaster for WMNR, an antiques dealer, and a member of the Bristol Historical and Chorale Society. He also was a docent at the Bristol Clock and Watch Museum and the New Britain Museum of American Art and volunteered as a mentor with Bristol Public Schools. Larry loved his summer escape at the Laurel-Lock Campground in Oakdale, CT where he had formed many great friendships throughout the years. Larry used to say that humor was his escape from a sometime harsh world and spared no one from it. Family and friends are invited to gather to Celebrate Larry’s wonderful life from 9:00 until 10:00 am on Saturday, January 2nd at Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester, MA immediately followed by procession to Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue, Paxton, MA where interment with Military Honors will take place. |
