John H. Aho, Jr., 74, beloved husband of Linda F. (Kaminski) Aho, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 9, 2019 at UMass Memorial Healthcare – University Campus. Born and raised in Worcester, he was the son of the late John H. and Rauha V. (Kumpulainen) Aho. He graduated from North High School and the former Worcester Industrial Technical Institute. John was a machine designer for Heald Machine Company from 1965-1992 and served as President of the Heald Golf League for several years. In 1992 he began working for Edact Technologies SNI and retired in 2014 after 16 years of service. In his spare time, John enjoyed puttering in his basement or around his shed, and of course, cheering on his favorite sports teams, the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. When John wasn’t tinkering with his motor home, he was in the driver’s seat. John and Linda never missed an opportunity to set out on a new adventure, whether it was a long weekend somewhere in New England, perhaps stopping for lunch at Warren’s Lobster House in Kittery with Donna and Ken, or as far away as Myrtle Beach or Colorado. John and Linda would also head south to Ft. Meyers Beach, FL to spend a little time each winter, where they had many friends. Another favorite destination of John’s was the Caribbean Island of St. Martin, which offered plenty of sunshine and beautiful white sandy beaches. Over the years, their countless adventures made for many happy memories with friends and family. John will be lovingly missed by his wife of 51 years, Linda; his two sons, Erik J. Aho of Auburn and Mark F. Aho and his wife, Debra Mudge of Worcester; his four grandchildren, Jake, Addison, Matthew and Katelyn Aho; his sister, Marjorie Bejune of Ft. Meyers, FL; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to gather with John’s family from 4 to 6 pm on Sunday, December 15, 2019 in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. John’s funeral will be held on Monday, December 16 at 10 am in the funeral home. Following the funeral, John will be laid to rest at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society, 3 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 or to the American Heart Association, 300 Fifth Avenue, Suite 6, Waltham, MA 02451-8750. |
