Charles A. Hagglund, 65, of 2 Hankey St., Rochdale, a section of Leicester, died Sunday, January 13, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital surrounded by his family, after an illness. He leaves his wife of 45 years, Nancy (Catacchio) Hagglund, a son, Nathan C. Hagglund and his wife Sarah of Leicester, a daughter, Jessica L. Hammond and her husband Todd of Upper Saddle River, N.J., a brother, Paul Hagglund of GA, a sister, Diane Miller of Holden, 4 grandchildren; Zachary, Maverick, Michael, Benjamin, and his loyal dog “Peanuts”. He was predeceased by a brother, Steven Hagglund in 2011. Born in Holden, he was the son of Birger C. & Helen F. (Anderson) Hagglund. He was a graduate of Wachusett Regional High School and then went on to serve his country during the Vietnam War in the Air Force. He was a tech aircraft mechanic with the 23rd Organizational Division, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. He received the Veterans Service Medal as well as the Veterans Combat Medal. He also served in the Air Force Reserves and was stationed at Barnes ANG. He was a 3rd generation owner of Anderson Tool and Stamping Co. and went on to work at Dexter Russell in Southbridge for 15 years as a tool and die maker, retiring in 2018. He was also a firefighter on the Rochdale Fire Department, Company 3 for 15 years and was an EMT with Leicester EMS for 10 years. He was a member of the Worcester Lodge of Elks, served on the Oxford Rochdale Sewer Commission, past Board Member of the Leicester Housing Authority and the self proclaimed “Mayor of Hankeyville”. The Funeral will be held Thursday, January 17 from the MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester, with a Mass at 10 A.M. in St. Pius X Church, 1161 Main St., Leicester. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-7 P.M. in the funeral home.
