Clifford V. Porter born in Worcester left this world peacefully after 72 years with us. He spent his early years in the old Laurel-Clayton neighborhood. His mother Sister Earlena B. Yelverton left us at the first of this year and the father of Clifford’s youth; Clifford Porter passed away in 1970. Clifford was the first grandson of his maternal grandparents, Spencer and Rev. Emma J. Boykin and his paternal grandparents, Thomas and Pennie Yelverton. He was also predeceased by his three aunts, Juanita Bracey, Beverly Chester, and Hessy Dupree and his two uncles, Joseph Boykin, Sr. and Charles Boykin, Sr.
He leaves to mourn him, his father of his adulthood, Johnnie B. Yelverton and his younger brother, Rev. Johnnie J. T. Yelverton. He also leaves a family full of cousins who will miss him dearly.
Clifford’s education started in the Worcester Public School System. He furthered his education at Worcester Junior College, Worcester State College, Northeastern Technical Institute and Assabet Valley Vocational Technical.
Clifford served his country aboard the U.S.S. Marias and left this world as a proud veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Vietnam War.
Clifford’s Christian journey started with his parents and continued with his lifetime membership of Belmont A.M.E. Zion Church. He leaves family and friends with memories of his love of music.
His funeral is Saturday, November 3rd with a service at 11:00 AM in Belmont A.M.E. Zion Church, 55 Illinois Street. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A calling hour will be held from 10:00 AM until the start of the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Ministry of Kindness Offering of Belmont A.M.E.
