Richard L. Powers, III, a longtime resident of Charlton, died Sunday, March 25, 2018, at Harrington Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He leaves his wife of nearly 49 years, Diana T. (Fontaine) Powers. They were married December 26, 1969. He also leaves his sons Scott Powers and his wife Amy of Ashburnham, and Jason Powers and his wife Annepsi of Worcester, and 3 grandchildren Molly, Kyle, and Jasmin. He leaves his brother Russell J. Powers and his wife Anne of Auburn, and a sister Janet E. Moran and her husband Daniel of N. Brookfield, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Donald Powers. Rich was born in Ludlow, MA, April 19, 1946, son of Richard L. Powers, Jr., and Ruth M. (Guyette) Powers. He graduated from North High School in Worcester, and was a member of St. Nicholas Albanian Orthodox Church in Southbridge. He was a US Army veteran from 1964-67. He was a retired truck driver for UPS, and R&M Trucking Co. He was also a very active call firefighter for the Town of Charlton, and in the early 1990’s, was the Ambulance Director for the Town of Charlton, and was also a part-time Charlton police dispatcher. He was an avid reader, loved the outdoors, but most of all Rich loved riding his motorcycle with his wife, and taking long scenic rides. He was also a member of the Red Knights Motorcycle Club. The funeral Mass will be held at 10AM, Thursday, March 29, 2018, at St. Nicholas Albanian Orthodox Church, (please meet directly at the church) 126 Morris Street, Southbridge, MA 01550. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Richards Avenue, Paxton, MA. Calling hours will be held from 5-7PM, Wednesday, March 28, 2018, with a Trisagion Service at 6:30PM at Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy Street, Southbridge, MA 01550. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Nicholas Albanian Orthodox Church Memorial Fund, P.O.
