Dorothy Ann McIntire, 87 of Worcester, MA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 10th after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband for over 63 years Francis E. McIntire in 2015. Dorothy is survived by her seven sons: Francis and his wife Patricia of Englewood, CO; William and his wife Claire of New Orleans, LA; Laurence of Vancouver, WA; Edward and his wife Lucy of Park City, UT; Gregory and his wife Illona of Paxton, MA; Theodore of Fayetteville, NC; and Andrew and his wife Kimberly of Mt Pleasant, SC. She was the grandmother of 20 and great grandmother of eight children. Besides her husband Frank, Dorothy was also preceded in death by her parents William W. Killian and Dorothy (Butt) Killian, and all her siblings: William, Virginia, Charles, Carol, and John; as well as one great grandchild, Emmanuelle. Often remarking that they were some of the best years of her life, because of her education and her lifelong friends, Dorothy graduated from Emmanuel College in 1951. After raising her sons, she received her teaching credentials at Worcester State College and a Master’s Degree from the University of Massachusetts. She was a tireless high school educator in the Worcester school system, highly regarded by a generation of students and her peers. Dorothy loved her garden and took great care to surround herself and others in nature’s beauty. She was a strong supporter of Emmanuel College, the American Association of University Women, the Massachusetts Teachers Association, and the Worcester Art Museum. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours, Monday October 16th 2017 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral will be held Tuesday, October 17th from the funeral home with a procession to Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove Street where her celebration of life mass will be held at 10:00 am. Burial next to her husband Frank will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
