Otis E. Wickwire, 87, of Leicester and a longtime Worcester resident and business owner, died peacefully on Sunday, August 6th 2017 at home.
Otis was born in Worcester, son of the late Harry and Doris (Bancroft) Wickwire and is also predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Anne C. (Seman) Wickwire, a brother, Grovner Wickwire and a sister, Bernice Wickwire. He is survived by his cousins, Donald Perkins of Springfield, MD, Joan Tessier-Thomas of Dunedin, FL, Thomas Wickwire of Fairbanks, AK and Lloyalea “Lolle” Boettcher of St. Louis, MO; his caretakers, Dawn and Harry Brooks of Leicester and their children, Bailey, Sydney and Matthew with whom he lived.
Mr. Wickwire served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Upon being discharged from the Marines, Otis went to work at the family business of Hadwen Park Supermarket where he eventually was the owner and operator for many years before retiring.
Otis was a lifelong member of Hadwen Park Congregational Church where he was a member of the Men’s Club and also instrumental with his wife in the founding of the food basket donations to the South Worcester Neighborhood Center during the holidays. Mr. Wickwire also a member of the Auburn Lodge of Masons #124.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, August 10 at 10 AM in the Hadwen Park Congregational Church, 6 Clover Street Worcester with burial to follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A calling hour will be held from 8 to 10 in the church before the funeral service.
