Robert A. Benoit Sr., 85, of Spencer died on Monday, May 22nd in Saint Vincent Hospital while surrounded by his family. Mr. Benoit was married for 56 years to the late Mary E. (O’Brien) Benoit who died in 2008. Bob is survived by a son, Robert A. Benoit Jr. and his longtime companion, Gloria Draper of Charlton; three daughters, Mary A. Benoit of Worcester, Debra L. Mossey of Brattleboro, VT and Lisa E. Rondeau and her husband, Harry of Worcester; a sister, Constance M. Richard and her husband Albert of Berlin, MA; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Arthur and Flora (LaMontagne) Benoit and is also predeceased by a brother, Arthur Benoit and two sisters, Mary Agnes Brennan and Claire P. Kobel. Bob proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Benoit owned and operated Benoit’s TV located on Cambridge Street for many years until he went to work as Director Of Maintenance for the Saint Francis Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. Bob was a member of the Franco American Club, the Knight of Columbus Leicester Council and Mary, Queen of the Rosary Church. He enjoyed fishing, playing darts, watching his New England sports teams, vacationing on Lake Champlain, playing cards – especially poker and spending time with his companion Betty Madelle. Bob had a boat for many years named the “Bob-Bet” on the Bass River in South Yarmouth where he and his family had many happy times. The funeral will be held on Friday, May 26th from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. Worcester with a Funeral Mass at 11AM in Mary, Queen of the Rosary Church 7 Church St. Spencer. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 25th from 4 to 7 PM in the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
