Arthur G. Monast, 84, of Worcester, passed away Sunday, May 7th 2017 in the arms of family after a brief illness.
Arthur was born in Worcester, one of three sons of Canadian immigrants Emile and Mary (Pellerin) Monast. Educated in Worcester, Arthur joined the U.S. Army during the Korean War serving his country proudly. Upon his discharge from service, Arthur began his career in construction and fabrication for the next 40 years as a carpenter and machine maintenance technician, beginning with Framingham Welding for over 30 years, then for a 6 year period for Worcester County Heat Treat Corporation before retiring. Arthur’s wife Joan (Hannan) Monast passed away in 1997. He is survived his three children, Kerry E. Monast of El Cajon, California, and twins, Kelly J. Baillargeon and her husband Michael of Northbridge, Kim E. Bishop of Spencer; two brothers, Ritchie Monast in California and Paul Monast of Whitinsville; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and extended family members. A son, Keith Monast passed away in 2006. Arthur was a member of the Greendale men’s club. An avid golfer; during the season Arthur could be found most days on his favorite course Clearview in Millbury. Arthur also enjoyed Ballroom dancing, travel, ocean cruising especially to Alaska, the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Arthur’s main enjoyment was his wife, children and especially his grandchildren. In life nothing came before them. He will be greatly missed. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Thursday, May 11th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral service will be held Friday, May 12th at 10:30 am in the funeral home. Burial next to his wife and son with Military honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. |
