Dorothy E. (Vadas) Gain, 83, formerly of Clason Road and Lincoln Village passed away peacefully on Friday, October 28th at Worcester Health Center. She was born May 16, 1933, a daughter of the late John A. and Florence (Ross) Vadas. She was a caring and compassionate wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. She had a great sense of humor – especially around young children. Dottie liked cooking, baking, and homemaking, but also liked to read, do crafts, and play Bingo and cards with her many friends. When she wasn’t doing any of that, she liked spending quiet time with her husband and traveling. Dottie attended Commerce High School. She worked as a nurse’s aide at Memorial Hospital, and worked at Astra Pharmaceutical and Norton Company cafeterias. Eventually she stayed home and cared for an infant, Jennifer Ruderman, while the mom worked. The child became the daughter Dottie never had, and they stayed close right up to Dottie’s death. Dorothy is survived by her son Edward and his wife Pam Kalagher of Pavo, Georgia; her sister Theresa Clark of Worcester; two grandchildren, Nicole and Patrick Kalagher of Worcester; two great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband Frederick Gain in 2002, a sister Shirley Viel, and brothers John A. and Edward R. Vadas. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 1st, from 6 to 8 PM, at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster Street in Worcester. The funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, November 2nd, at St. Joan of Arc Church, 570 Lincoln Street, Worcester, with burial following in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Dottie’s prayers have been answered as she is now back with her Freddie. We’ll miss her but it helps to know she is happy now. The family would like to thank the staff at Worcester Health Center and Hospice from Notre Dame for the love and excellent care they gave her. Thank you SO much!! |
