Oberline (LaPorte) Abare, 95, passed away Thursday May 19, 2016 at the Knollwood Nursing Center. She was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Raymond Abare, who died in 1995. She leaves her son, David Abare, of Worcester and his companion, Suzanne Tenthory of Holden; her daughter Denise and her husband, James Adams, of Princeton; her grandchildren Michael and Kristina Adams of Princeton, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by nine sisters and brothers. Oberline was born in Troy, N.H. on April 5, 1921, daughter of Roc and Clarice LaPorte. She grew up in Troy, waking each morning to a wonderful view of Mt. Monadnock. “Obe” or “Obie”, as she was affectionately known, graduated from Troy High School. She was married in September 1947 and moved to Worcester where she and Ray created a loving home and raised their children. She was first and foremost a homemaker, providing love and warm meals to her family each and every day. Her biggest joy was spending time at home with her family. A devout Catholic, she was a founding member of St. George’s Roman Catholic Church in Worcester where she sang in the choir, and was a member of the Legion of Mary and the Women’s Guild. Oberline had many fun times with the Worcester Dance Assembly and enjoyed taking trips with the Greendale Retired Men’s Club. In her senior years, she spent many hours lovingly celebrating the life events of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing KENO and going out to eat at The Manor. She spent her last year at Knollwood Nursing Center and her family would like to acknowledge the loving care provided her there. The funeral will be held Monday, May 23, from the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster Street, Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. George’s Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Sunday, May 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. |
