Louis H. Stewart, 86, a longtime Auburn resident passed away Friday, April 29 2016 surrounded by his family; joining his son Michael in heaven, who passed away in 1999. Louis, a devoted family man and friend to all, is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anne (Casello) Stewart; his three sons, Steven R. Stewart and his girlfriend Susan of Rutland, Daniel S. Stewart and his wife, Heather and Mark S. Stewart all of Auburn; his six granddaughters, Marisa, Kayla, Sarah, Ashley, Paige and Hayley; his former daughter-in-laws, Lynne Stewart and Ameryss Stewart; beloved family members of the Casello’s and many friends. He was born in Newton and served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Louis’ working career spanned almost 50 years in the Grocery industry. His career began with the First National Company, where he rose through the ranks and experienced several company ownership changes over his 48 year career. He was the Manager of the Dairy & Frozen Food Department for Stop & Shop prior to his retirement in 1994. He then returned to Stop and Shop working part-time for a few more years to follow. Louis was a member of St Joseph Church, The Auburn Knights of Columbus Counsel and Bishop O’Reilly Assembly 4th Degree. In addition to the constant joy he found in his family, Louis found additional enjoyment in bowling, computers, and watching and rooting for the New England Sports teams – especially the Boston Red Sox. He loved music, whether listening to it in the background or singing out loud upon a whim. But, most of all, Louis was the center of his family. Family always came first especially, his grandchildren who lovingly called him “Papa”. They were his life’s inspiration. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Tuesday, May 3rd from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be held Wednesday, May 4th from the funeral home with a procession to St Joseph Church, 189 Oxford St., where his Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am.
