John M. Morin, Sr., 94, of Worcester died Sunday, April 3rd in St. Vincent Hospital. His wife of 65 years, Sophie T. (Sawicki) Morin died in 2015. He leaves two sons, Walter and his wife, Wendy of Worcester and John Jr. of Brownsburg, Indiana; 8 grandchildren, Nina, Amy and her husband, Mark, Robert, John and his wife, Kara, Michael, Marc, Jacques and Emily and 10 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Henry, Joseph and Thomas and his sister, Helen. He was born in Blackstone the son of John and Mary (Swol) Morin and attended Blackstone schools until joining the Civilian Conservation Camps in Vermont and New Hampshire during the Depression. He enlisted in the United States Army during World War II and became a demolitions expert, staff sergeant in the 34th Red Bull Division, fighting in North Africa and Italy. John worked for Pullman Standard, US Envelope and Nation Envelope and took great pride being a part-time cook at Tony’s Spa on Grafton Street during the 1950’s. In his twenties, John was a professional junior middleweight boxer. He was a candlepin bowler in many local leagues for most of his life. John especially enjoyed polka dancing, Polish picnics, camping and his family. He will be greatly missed by all who had the honor to know him and to spend time with him. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 9th at 11:00 AM in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours.
