Fortune Tonga, of Clinton, a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and beautiful spirit passed away peacefully on Monday, January 11, 2016 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center. He was 45 years young and was surrounded at the end by his adoring family who marveled at his courage, dignity, and shining radiance. Fortune was born on January 12, 1970, in Zambia, Africa and was preceded in death by his father Samuel Tonga and his mother, Selina (Chinzare) Tonga. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Jane (Mtowa) Tonga, their son, Mainza Dalison Tonga and their daughter, Langa Mwezi Tonga all of Clinton. He leaves four brothers, Cuthbert, Phillip, Benji and Sam Tonga; three sisters, Shelia, Marjorie and Faith Tonga and many nieces, nephews, friends, coworkers, and loved ones. He is predeceased by his daughter, Tionenji Mwainda “Tita” Tonga, who passed away July 13, 2012. Fortune graduated from Church Hill High School in Zimbabwe, Africa and studied Art and Design in London. He was fun-loving with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed and valued his family and friends to the fullest. He loved cooking on the grill and spending time with his friends and family. A funeral service for Fortune will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A period of calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home prior to his funeral service. |
