Richard A. Garabedian 93 of Howe Village, died Thursday , Sept. 24th at Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his wife of 68 years, Margaret G. ( Gallagher) Garabedian, a son Richard J. Garabedian and his wife Cynthia of Leicester, two daughters Nancy J. Woods and her husband James of Spencer and Carol A. Garabedian and her fiancee Ted Koziol of North Brookfield, a brother Robert P. Garabedian of Rutland, three sister Ruth Devio and her husband Ray of Northbridge, Joan Rackley and her husband Peter of Spencer and Mary Ann Kennedy and her husband Ben of Ridgefield, WA., four grandchildren Scott and Kevin Woods, Rachel and Richard Garabedian and a great grandson Tyler Woods, many loving nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by brothers Edwin and Raymond Garabedian.
Dick worked for the Worcester Department of Public Works retiring as a foreman after thirty five years.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of Arthur and Mary (Angell) Garabedian and lived in Leicester for twenty five years before moving to Brookfield and then Spencer.
He served his country with the U.S. Army 100th Infantry Division from 1942 – 1946 at the Battle of the Buldge and in the European Theater where he was awarded the Bronze Star.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4528 in Leicester.
He was active in baseball and pitched semi pro for the Gas House Gang and Botwinik Brothers Teams.
He was an avid bowler until the age of 93, loved all sports and coached Little League in Leicester and Spencer from his son to his grandsons for thirty five years. The biggest enjoyment was his grandchildren. We would also like to thank the staff at Memorial Hospital and Rose Monahan Hospice for their care and support.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 28th in the J.HENRI MORIN AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terrace, Spencer. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
