Mark A. Mateiko, 43, of Sturbridge and formerly of Worcester, was stricken ill and died Sunday, July 19, 2015, while vacationing on Cape Cod. Born in Worcester, Mark was a graduate of South High School and Worcester State University. He worked for 20 years for BNY Mellon, where he was a section manager for its call center in Westborough. Mark loved their family tradition of vacationing on Cape Cod with his wife, Lisa, and son, Brody. He was a devoted golfer who played regularly at Pine Ridge Country Club in Oxford with his lifelong friend Kenny Duquette, his father, and other friends. Mark and his father were loyal Holy Cross basketball and football season-ticket holders. Mark was also deeply involved in adult softball leagues in the greater Worcester area. He played for several teams and organized many summer leagues in the region. Mark leaves behind his wife, Lisa M. (Bairos) Mateiko; son, Brody A. Mateiko; stepson, Jordan Fillios of Marlborough; parents, Theodore R. and Suzanne (Gorman) Mateiko of Shrewsbury; brother Todd Mateiko, his wife Vickie, and their children Aidan, Darian, Devon and Dylan, of Marlborough; his father- and mother-in-law, Sam and Maria Bairos of Florida and formerly of Framingham; and sister-in-law, Sandra (Bairos) Donahue, her husband Jed, and their children Zoe and Sam, of Wilmington, Delaware. Calling hours are Thursday, July 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. There will be a graveside service Friday, July 24, at 10 a.m. at Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Ave., Paxton. |
