Jane Power Gilrein, 80, of Worcester, died Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at the Holy Trinity Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Her husband of 43 years, William H. Gilrein, died in 2001. Jane leaves three children, Denise Carraher and her husband Richard Carraher of Worcester, Paul Gilrein and his wife Andrea of Shrewsbury, and Stephanie Trainor and her husband Jeffrey Trainor of Leicester. She also leaves seven grandchildren: Meghan, Michael, Alyssa, Jeffrey, Justin, Jackson and Julianna. Her brother Thomas J. Power died in 2010. Her sister-in-law June A. (Davis) Power died May 19. Jane was born February 7, 1935, daughter of Thomas and Doris (Purcell) Power, and lived in Worcester all her life. She graduated from St. Peter’s High School in 1953. Jane worked at the New England Telephone Company for several years before starting her family. She was also a Foster Mother of 182 infants through Catholic Charities. With her husband Bill, Jane also operated a Family Day Care in their home for more than 20 years. She retired in 2003. Jane was an active member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish and volunteered with the parish bingo and various other parish activities. Jane loved to entertain family and friends, and cherished every moment she spent with her children and grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Savitt and the staff at Holy Trinity for all the compassionate care they have given Jane. Calling hours are Tuesday, May 26, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral will be Wednesday, May 27, from the funeral home with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 25 Fales St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
