Malcolm Bodurian, 97, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 28, 2014 at UMass Memorial Healthcare-Memorial Campus, Worcester, following an illness. Malcolm was born in Claremont, New Hampshire, a son of the late Giragas and Surophe (Arslanian) Bodurian, and as a young boy moved to Worcester with his family. He graduated from South High School and Worcester Junior College. Malcolm was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the 46th Armored Infantry Battalion of the 5th Army Division. He participated in battles throughout most of Europe, and was awarded a Purple Heart in April of 1945, being discharged as a Staff Sergeant. Following the war, Malcolm returned to Worcester, where his relationship with his neighbor, Anita Kaladjian, grew much more meaningful and special. They were joined in marriage on June 8, 1947. Together they have enjoyed a strong, loving relationship for the past 67 years. Malcolm went on to become a draftsman, working first for Coppus Engineering Corporation and then Morgan Construction, both in Worcester. He retired in 1982 following 21 years working as a draftsman and structural design checker. In his free time, Malcolm loved spending time outdoors. Whether it was fishing, golfing or tending to his tomatoes in his garden, relaxing and enjoying the fresh air were truly rewarding to him. Cape Cod was also very special to Malcolm, and with Anita, enjoyed more than 43 years at his family retreat in Dennisport. A talented drummer, Malcolm played in several bands over the years, and was a member of the Musician’s Union, Local 143. In addition to his beloved wife Anita, Malcolm leaves his brother, Edward Bodurian and his wife, Ellen of Falmouth; his sister, Helen Ostlund of Holden; his nephew, Harry Ostlund of Holden; his nieces, Cynthia Bowman and her husband, Peter of Melrose, and their daughter Olivia Bowman. Services for Malcolm will be held privately on Saturday, December 6, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Memorial gifts, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to Veteran’s Inc 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605. |
