Richard “Squeeky” J. McGovern, 77, passed away at home in Auburn on Monday, September 1, 2014. He was born and raised in Worcester, the son of John J. and Florence (Bradshaw) McGovern and had lived in Worcester before moving to Auburn. He leaves his loving companion of 25 years, Jane I. (Berthiaume) Sloan McGovern; two daughters, Lynn C. McQuoid and her husband, Sam of Bolton and Lisa A. McGovern and her companion, Paul Danforth of Centerville; four stepchildren, Theresa M. Nourse and her husband, Michael of Oxford, Daniel F. Sloan, Jr. of Whitinsville, Michelle J. Sloan and her husband, Simon Greaves of Las Vegas, NV and Anthony M. Sloan and his wife, Kathy of Rutland; two sisters, Elizabeth Galvin of Wynantskill, NY and Patricia Attridge of Deep River, CT; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his brother, James B. McGovern. Squeeky graduated from College of the Holy Cross in 1959 in the ROTC program, with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He was a Navy Lieutenant and Chief Engineer serving aboard the USS Shenandoah (AD-26). He owned and operated Dymco Associates for many years. Previously, he was a Partner with JCL Associates and was General Manager at ECC in Holden. He was a member of the Tatnuck American Legion Post 288 in Worcester, The Wachusett and the Sterling National Country Clubs and the Worcester Athletic Club. Known and loved by all, Squeeky was an avid golfer and loved to play racquetball and pool. He enjoyed traveling to Aruba, working in his garden and maintaining the perfect lawn. He was a talented carpenter and historian, but will be best fondly remembered as being a friend to everyone. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Funeral services for Squeeky will be held from the funeral home on Friday, Sept. 5,with an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to College of the Holy Cross, P.O.
