Charlotte Gifford Erickson, 90 , passed away on August 30, 2014. Charlotte was born in Haverhill, MA to Grace and Warner Gifford. She later moved to Worcester and graduated from Commerce High School in 1942. She was a member of Central Congregational Church in Worcester and met and married her husband Ernest Clarence Erickson, Jr. there in June of 1942. During World War II she followed her husband to the Harlingen, Texas Air Force Base where they remained until the end of the war. They then returned to Worcester and had two daughters and a son. Charlotte was pre-deceased by her husband, her son-in law, James A. Chenard, and her granddaughter, Christine Heyes. Charlotte enjoyed needlepoint, volunteering at church thrift shops and also adopted her husband’s love of watching golf tournaments. Charlotte became a member of Greendale People’s Church in later years. After the death of her husband she moved into the Overlook Masonic community in Charlton. When she could no longer remain in Independent Living she moved into the Skilled Nursing Facility section. Her family is very grateful for the astounding level of care, support and affection she received from the staff and later by the Overlook Hospice volunteers. They did not just administer medicines and medical care, they also brought prayers, hugs, jokes and laughter into her final days. She leaves her brother Henry Warner Gifford & his wife Jacqueline of North Brookfield; two daughters, Marion Chenard of Rutland, Charlotte Corry & her husband Robert of Brimfield, a son, Donald Erickson & his wife Gloria of Barre, 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. The funeral will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 11:00 AM in Pillsbury Funeral Home, 163 Main St., Spencer, MA. A calling hour will be held from 10:00 – 11:00AM prior to the service. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 72 Cambridge St., Worcester, MA 01603. |
