Atty. Margaret (Smith) McLean passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the Odd Fellows Home. She was the wife of Atty. Terrence McLean, who died in 2008. Born in Worcester on August 20, 1930, Mrs. McLean was the daughter of the late Dr. Maurice E. and Anna (Holland) Smith. She is survived by three daughters, Lauren McLean and her husband William Dingeman of Haymarket, Va., Beverly Wimberley and her husband David of New Hampshire and Jacqueline (Martino) McLean of Worcester, two sisters, Anna-Marie Duffy and her husband Robert of Worcester, Mary Helen Sabin and her husband William of Boylston; two brothers-in-law, Lester McLean of Lancaster and Paul McLean of North Carolina; many nieces, a nephew and a grandniece. Mrs. McLean attended the former Blessed Sacrament School, and graduated from the former Classical High School in 1949 and Clark University in 1952 with honors in her major and her general courses. Upon graduating from Boston University Law School, she opened a private law practice in West Boylston and later in Worcester. She also taught math at Clinton High School. She won the first Bishop Wright prize for her thesis on the separation of church and state. Known for her athletic prowess, she played varsity basketball at Clark and tennis for much of her life. Margaret enjoyed helping fellow students who were having difficulties with their studies, difficulties non-existent in her life. Her parents took her on trips to their native Canada which she also enjoyed. Her annual trips to Hampton Beach with her husband and daughters brought her joy. Calling hours are Monday, June 2 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster Street, Worcester. The funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant St., Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. |
