Ronald K. Stone, 84, of Worcester, died peacefully at home on Saturday, January 22, 2011. He leaves his wife of 66 years, Dorothy M. (Lalone) Stone; three sons, Ronald K. Stone of Princeton, Steven and Charles Stone, both of Worcester; four daughters, Susan Orsi of Oxford, Donna Smith of Marion, Ronna Prunier of Charlton and Kimberly Stone of Holden; a brother, James Stone of Paxton; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, the son of James R. and Bernice (Sheckelton) Stone and lived here all his life. Mr. Stone graduated from South High School in Worcester where he played varsity sports. In 1945, he was recruited as a pitcher and first baseman for the Boston Braves. He later played semi-professional baseball for local leagues, and coached the Coughlin Electric team for the Jesse Burkett Baseball League in Worcester for 17 years. He also coached local intermediate baseball teams. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving with the Seabees in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He worked over 30 years at Wyman Gordon Co., retiring as a Methods Engineer. The funeral service and burial were private.
