Donald I. Banfill, Sr., 82, formerly of 23 Wheelock St., Oxford, MA passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Tuscany House, Hospice of Marion County, Florida. He was born in Worcester, son of LeRoss C. and Myrtle Flinn Rondeau. He leaves his wife of nearly 60 years, Cecile O. (Croteau) Banfill; a daughter, Donna M. Knott and her husband Glenn of Leicester, MA; two sons: Donald I. Banfill, Jr., and his wife Cindi of Ctr. Barnstead, NH; David P. Banfill and his partner Keith Santner of Jacksonville, FL; a sister, Jean Drake of Charlton, MA; four grandchildren: Jason G. Knott and Katie of Michigan, Jennifer (Jenny) M. Roberts and her husband Bill of Spencer, MA, Joshua J. Knott and Sarah of Worcester, and Celeste R. Banfill of Ctr. Barnstead, NH; three great-grandchildren: Matthew J. and Samantha C. Lackey of Spencer and Emma R. Knott of Worcester. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Banfill and a sister, Marion Soucy. Donald was an 8-year Navy Veteran, serving in WWII and the Korean War, aboard USS Kidd DD 661, USS Knudson APD 101 and USS John A. Bole DD 755. Donald retired from Shepherd Hill Regional High School in Dudley as third shift custodian. He spent 8 years in Florida after retirement with Cecile. Donald enjoyed many hours working in his gardens. He was always willing to lend a hand to all who knew him. Just nine weeks prior to his death, Donald took a trip to Michigan with family to visit Jason and Katie. It was a wonderful time for all. In accordance with his wishes, there will be a graveside service to be held at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, in the Heritage II section on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 11 am.
