George P. Guertin, of Worcester, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, October 20th, in the Hospice Residence. He leaves his wife of 59 years, Florence E. (Reidy) Guertin; 3 sons, George P. Guertin Jr. and his wife Carol of Holden, James V. Guertin of Worcester and John F. Guertin and his wife Barbara of Worcester; 3 daughters, Karen M., wife of James Walsh and Lynne A., wife of Lawrence Noon, all of Worcester, and Susan M., wife of Andrew Serrato of Paxton; 5 brothers, Lawrence Guertin of Chula Vista, CA, Joseph "Ray" Guertin of St. Petersburg Beach, FL, Clifton "Franny" Guertin of Williamsburg, VA, Walter Guertin of West Brookfiled, and Paul Guertin of Charlton; 4 sisters, Mary Stefanov of Avon, CT, Ruth Gibbons of Hudson, NY, Claire Pelletier of CT, and Lorraine Favreault of Worcester; 13 grandchildren and nephews and nieces. A son, Joseph M. Guertin and a brother Edward P. Guertin, predeceased him. He was born in Oxford, the son of Joseph and Clara (Laramie) Guertin. A longtime city business owner, George owned and operated George Guertin Trophy Manufacturing Co. and Guertin Graphics for many years. Mr. Guertin was a life master, director, longtime instructor, and President of the American Contract Bridge League 25. He was a life member of the Chester P. Tuttle American Legion Post, Auburn, a charter and life member of the Oxford VFW Post, and was a member of the Worcester Elks Lodge 243, the Worcester Marine Corps League, and served on the Board of Directors of the Leukemia Society of America. Mr. Guertin was also a Justice of the Peace. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and was recalled for the Korean Conflict. He was a Deputy Sheriff for many years for the Worcester County Sheriffs Association. George enjoyed his daily breakfast with his many friends at McDonalds in Auburn. The funeral is Tuesday, October 24th, from O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Monday, October 23rd, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
