Stanley R. Smith, 82, of Westborough, died on Saturday, September 30, 2006 at the Knollwood Nursing Center in W. Boylston. He was the husband of Ethel V. (Hanson) Smith. Born in Brunswick, Maine, he was the son of the late John and Bertha (Schultz) Smith. He was educated in Brunswick schools and earned a Bachelor’s degree at Framingham State College. During WWII he served with the U.S. Army with Company I, 30th Regiment, 3rd Division attaining the rank of Corporal. Mr. Smith was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He was employed as a mail coordinator for Travelers Insurance Co. in Worcester prior to his retirement. Mr. Smith was a member of the First Baptist Church, the D.A.V., the V.F.W., the Anzio War Veterans of WWII and was a former membership chairman of the 3rd Infantry Division U.S. Army. In addition to his wife he is survived by two step sons, Daniel E. Donahue of Westborough and Thomas M. Donahue of Worcester, two step grandchildren, Katrina D. Donahue and Joseph D. Donahue and one sister, Arlene R. Small of CT. He was the brother of the late Clyde C. Smith. A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, October 6, at 1:00 P.M. in the Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Burial, with military honors, will follow. There are no calling hours.
