Oliver F. "Al" Cummings, 68, of 5 Town Beach Rd, formerly of Paine St., Worcester, died Friday night in Providence Extended Care Facility, Worcester, after an illness. He leaves his wife, Anna M. (Hill) Cummings; a son, Francis C. Cummings of Worcester; a daughter, Mary E. Speicher of Spencer; two brothers, Frederick and Richard Cummings, both in Vermont; two sisters, Evelyn Perkins of Oxford and Catherine Fields in Arizona; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several aunts; nephews and nieces. He was born in Burlington Vt., son of William and Katherine (Burbo) Cummings, and lived in Worcester most of his life before moving here in 1988. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Cummings was a founder and partner at Worcester Constables Office, where he worked 15 years until he became ill this year. Previously he was a truck driver at the former Spector Freight Co. in Worcester for 26 years. He was a member of St. John's Church in Worcester. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and was a life member and instructor of the National Rifle Association. He was a member of the Leicester Rod & Gun Club; the Singletary Rod & Gun Club; the 200 Sportsmen's Club in Webster; the Auburn Elks; the English Social Club; Local 170 and Local 404 Teamsters Union; and the Main South American Legion Post 341. He was a master instructor with the Massachusetts Hunter Safety Education Program for 25 years, and in 1991 he was named Instructor of the Year. The funeral will be held tomorrow from O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Ave., Worcester, with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. John's Church, 44 Temple St., Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours at the funeral home are 6 to 9 p.m. tonight. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Providence Extended Care Facility, 119 Providence St., Worcester, 01604; or the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Massachusetts, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, 01608.
