William Scott, age 71, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Cincinnati, he was the son of William and Violet (Campbell) Hehl. William was later adopted by James and Marcella Scott. Bill grew up over the river in Erlanger, Kentucky. After graduating High School, Bill joined the Army and served for 7 years. He then joined the National Guard and served for 2 years. Bill was commended to receive medals of honor for his service. While he served, his specialties were a Sharp-shooter, a Marksman, and a 1st class hand grenade specialist. He was stationed at Fort Devens where he met his wife, Linda. After serving in the military, he moved to Massachusetts, where he and Linda raised their family.

Bill provided for his family through hard work for many years which included working two separate jobs with the majority of his career for the City of Worcester as an Equipment Operator full time for the Department of Public Works and part time for UMass Medical School in the evenings. His commitment in his dual role career lasted for over 32 years.

Bill’s favorite pastimes were watching Nascar, Patriots, wrestling and UK basketball. He also loved going on cruises with his family and going back home to visit Kentucky. Bill also enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.

Bill will be lovingly missed and remembered by his children, Randy Scott and his wife, Katie of Woodstock, CT; and Andrea Pettes and her husband, Jake of Rutland, and his former wife of 42 years and caregiver, Linda Garabedian; his sister, Ann Cornett and her husband, Justice of Tennessee; his sister-in-law Mary Garabedian-Gomez and her husband, Johnny Gomez of Rutland; his cherished grandchildren, Gracie, Sawyer and Brooklyn Scott, and Paige, Luke and Ryleigh Pettes; and nieces and nephew.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Calling Hours in William’s memory from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, August 14th at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Interment will take place in the future at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, August 23rd, at Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Ave., Paxton.
