    Walter Stanley "Stan" Jansson, 88, formerly of Mt. View Dr., Holden, passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2010 in Westborough Health Care in Westborough after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

    Born and raised in Auburn, Massachusetts on September 11, 1921, Stan was the son of the late J. Helmer and Maria (Erickson) Jansson. He graduated from Auburn High School where he lettered in three sports, and Worcester Junior College. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corp at Ft. Myers, Florida as a Staff Sergeant and Instructor in flexible aerial gunnery. Prior to and upon his discharge, he was employed by the Wyman-Gordon Co. for 45 years, retiring from their Design & Plant Engineering Department.

    Stan and his devoted wife of 64 years, Virginia "Ginny" (Monroe) Jansson, moved to Holden, Massachusetts in 1953. Upon their retirement, they wintered in Largo, Florida for eighteen years.

    Stan was a member of many organizations, including the Auburn Lodge of Elks, Boylston Lodge of Masons, Worcester County Shrine Club, Scottish Rite of Springfield, Alethea Grotto, West Boylston and Greendale Retired Men's Club. In the early 70's, Stan was an active supporter and assistant defensive coach of the Holden Pop Warner Patriots and Mustangs, Along with spending time with his family, Stan avidly enjoyed sports, dancing and music, camping, travel and the beach.

    He leaves his wife, Ginny; his daughter, Sandra Blackford and her husband Peter of Naples, Florida; his daughter, Ruth Florence and her husband Randy of Gardner; grandchildren: Ripp Charters and wife Phyllis of Gardner, Ross Charters and wife Moki Brown of Brooklyn, NY, Amy Barker and husband Tim of Naples, Florida, Kendal Blackford and Henry Blackford and wife Rae of Naples, Florida; great grandchildren: Matthew and Ruth-Ann Barker, Kiley Charters, Mika Charters and Annabel Blackford; sister, Inez Zannotti and her husband John of Auburn; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by brothers: Lennard, Einar, Fritz and Hilding.

    Family and friends are planning to honor and celebrate Stan's life by gathering for his funeral service in the Community Chapel of Lamoureux Fletcher and Smith Funeral Home, 105 Central St., Gardner on Friday, August 20, 2010 at 11 AM. Rev. Stephanie Flynn will officiate. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A calling hour will precede the service at the funeral home from 10-11 AM on Friday.
