Virginia (Dickie) Whitney McCauley, 100, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Beaumont of Worcester after a long illness. She was born in Quincy, the daughter of Herbert and Margaret (MacLean) Dickie and had lived in Holden for over 60 years.

Her loving husband, Cecil “Mac” C. McCauley, passed away on September 21, 2015. She leaves a son, Clifford Whitney and his wife, Judythe of Thompson, CT; a daughter, Helen C. Comeau and her husband, Roger of Worcester; eleven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Margaret Thompson and a son, Herbert Whitney.

Virginia was a nursery school teacher at the former Uncle Wiggily’s Nursery School for twenty years and was a nurse’s aide at the Lutheran Home for ten years before retiring. She was a member of Greendale Peoples’ Church, and its PROTO club and was well known as the Sunshine Lady. She was very crafty and enjoyed knitting and crocheting in her spare time. Virginia was a hard working and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved to keep busy with her grandchildren.

The McCauley family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation for the care and compassion provided by the staff of the Beaumont of Worcester. It was greatly appreciated.

At Virginia’s request, funeral services are private and will be held at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden followed by a committal service at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
