Thomas P. Griffin, 72, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, at home.

He was born in Worcester, son of Donald J. Griffin, Sr., and Barbara (Malia) Griffin. He grew up in the Lincoln Street neighborhood and graduated from Burncoat High Class of 69′. He was a four-sport athlete, playing basketball, track, football, and baseball varsity teams. He was also a Central Mass All-Star, Patriot Award Winner, Top Scorer in Football, and played on several City Football Teams. He was inducted into the Burncoat High School Hall of Fame in 2000 and the City of Worcester Sports Hall of Fame in 2016. After high school, he served in the United States Marine Corp. Tommy worked his entire career for Local #107 Carpenters Union. He loved anything to do with carpentry and, in his younger years, was always willing to help a friend or family member with a house project of any kind. He still enjoyed “putzing” in his garage and listening to music while enjoying a “good” cigar. He never met a dessert he didn’t like. Tom’s other great passion was the game of golf. He was a lifetime member of Wachusett Country Club and enjoyed golfing almost every day and playing in many club tournaments with his lifelong friends. In May of 2003, he accomplished one of his life goals by getting a hole-in-one.

Tom is survived by his wife of 50 years, whom he met at the age of 14, Judith E. (Courtney) Griffin; two children, Tamara A. Fay and her husband, William and their children, Ella, Lily, Alana and Maya of West Boylston and Andrew T. Griffin and his wife Quan, and their son, Aiden of Ashland; his father and stepmother, Donald J. Griffin, Sr. and his wife, Lillian of Worcester; a brother, Gerald Griffin and his wife, Susan of Worcester and many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Donald Griffin, Jr. passed away in May, and Mark Griffin passed away in 2008.

Visiting Hours will be held Saturday, October 30, from 2 to 5 pm with a Prayer Service at 5 pm at Callahan Fay Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle Street. Burial will be private in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org
