Thomas J. Yacuzzi, 82, of 23 Devens Road, Worcester passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2007 with his beloved wife by his side. Tommy was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Tommy was born in Worcester on May 15, 1925, son of the late Charles and Rose (Mandella) Yacuzzi and brother of the late Vincent Yacuzzi, Sr. He was a 1943 graduate of Shrewsbury High School where he played varsity baseball, basketball and football. He was Captain of the football team and known as "Touchdown Tommy." He graduated from Clark University in 1949 with a degree in Economics. He was a self-employed insurance and real estate broker and owner of the Thomas J. Yacuzzi Insurance and Real Estate Agency, a member of the Worcester County Board of Realtors for over 40 years and Manager of the Twenty-Five Oak Avenue medical building for many years.
He was a faithful Catholic and a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church where he taught CCD for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He helped numerous charities.
Tommy had a great love for Cape Cod, golf and the Red Socks. He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 58 years, Beverly (Ekberg) Yacuzzi of Worcester, MA; a son, Thomas C. Yacuzzi and his wife, Linda, of Dudley, MA; a daughter, Mary Ann Spiegel and her husband, James, of Seattle, WA; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Yacuzzi, the wife of his late son, Richard F. Yacuzzi, Sr., who passed away in 1998; and six grandchildren, Richard Yacuzzi, Jr., Kathryn Yacuzzi, Kristin Spiegel, James Spiegel, Jr., Sean Peek and Heidi Peek; his beloved aunt, Gloria (Mandella) DeLuca; nieces, nephews, special cousins and many wonderful friends.
A special thank you to the entire staff and Hospice at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Worcester, for their compassionate care and family support.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 29th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 23 Fales Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Tommy's memory may be made to Saint Joseph's Abbey, 167 North Spencer Rd., Spencer, MA 01562 or to the Mercy Home for Boys & Girls, 1140 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL 60607.
