Sylvain J. Caissie, 96, formerly of Sturbridge and Worcester, died peacefully, with his family by his side, on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at Blaire House Worcester, 116 Houghton St.

His wife of 68 years, Claire M. (Maillet) Caissie, died in February, 2023.  He leaves a daughter, Marguerite M. Herrie and her husband Alan of Sturbridge; three sons, Norman J. Caissie of Worcester, John J. Caissie and his wife Linda (Wilkinson) of Whitman, and Robert J. Caissie and his wife Sandra (Caprera) of Webster; seven siblings, Geraldine Caissie, Andrea Roy, Francine Despres, Germaine Richard and her husband Leo-Paul Richard, Clovis Caissie and his wife Lydia (Black) Caissie, Raymond Caissie, and Jean Caissie.  He also leaves 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased in 2016 by a son, Gerard J. Caissie, his baby daughter, Susan Caissie, nine siblings, Therese Hachey, Anna Caissie, Emery Caissie, Geraldine Caissie, Etiennette Caissie, Joseph Caissie, Maria Thibodeau, Emery Caissie, and Rosa Dallaire.  He was born in Rogersville, New Brunswick, Canada, son of Belonie and Justine (Arsenault) Caissie, and lived in Worcester since 1957 before moving to Sturbridge in 2003.

Sylvain worked as a group leader at the former Phalo-Belden Wire & Cable Company in Shrewsbury.  He was a member of Notre Dame Church and very active in church events. He was proud of his Acadian heritage and was proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren carrying on those traditions.  He was very religious and family oriented.  He was active in the Franco-American Association of Our Lady of Assumption Shrine in Rogersville, New Brunswick, Canada.

A special thank you to the staff at Blaire House, who have provided wonderful care to Sylvain the last few years.

The funeral will be held Friday, October 4, 2024, from Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, Worcester, with a Mass at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St, Worcester.  Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.  Calling hours will be held Thursday, October 3 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Assumption Shrine in Rogersville, New Brunswick, Canada: L’Association de Monument, 2 rue St Joseph, Rogersville, NB, Canada E4Y2H2.
