Subscription Update Obituary

     Susie Jane (Canty) Harrison, 92 of Worcester, formerly a long-time resident of Brooklyn, New York, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 with her family by her side.
Susie was born on April 24, 1927 in Greenwood, South Carolina, a daughter to the late Eugene Holloway and Mary Jane Canty. She graduated from Bettie Academy and attended courses at Howard University. She eventually completed her Associates Degree in Accounting Susie worked as a court appointed family care worker for the State of New York. She was a Trustee and Head Mother of New Ammie FBH Church for many years where she worked as a missionary in Brooklyn, NY. When she became ill and initially moved to Rochester NY, she immediately joined Aenon Missionary Baptist Church.
Susie’s husband, Howard Harrison passed away in 1993. She leaves behind to mourn; her brother, John Canty of Baltimore, MD: her devoted children, Yvonne Harrison of Worcester with whom she lived, Yvette Thomas of Rochester, NY, Tawanna Hall-Jackson of Raleigh, NC, Tredway Fulton Gay of Long Island and Joseph Gay of New York; seven grandchildren; Bruce Canty Jr. , Tracy Thomas, William Thomas Jr, Stephen Jackson Jr, Tatiana Jackson, Tianee Jackson, Elijah Jackson, six great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones.
Due to current health concerns and limitations on public gatherings, funeral services will be held privately. Interment will be held at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later time. MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Str., Worcester is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
