Subscription Update Obituary

Stephen M. Dyer, 65, of Worcester, a caring, loving, and patriotic man passed away surrounded by loved ones, Friday, June 25, 2021, after a short illness.

Stephen was born in Worcester, one of five children of Martin J. Dyer, Jr., and Barbara S. (Jordan) Dyer. Raised in Worcester, he graduated from Worcester Boys Trade. Stephen then enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving his country as a sailor aboard the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Ranger CV-61. Upon his discharge for the Navy he met and married the love of his life, soulmate and partner for over 35 years, Cheryl A. Cabana. Stephen worked for various companies before accepting a position with the Upper Blackstone Wastewater treatment facility where he worked many years before retiring.

Stephen is survived by the family he cherished, his wife Cheryl; sister Joanne E. Dyer of Worcester, brother, John J. Dyer, Sr. and his wife Patricia of Gardner and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members; his dogs and best friends whom were his children, Skyler and Ranger. In addition to his parents, his two sisters, Kathleen E. McNeil and Janice M. Dyer predeceased him.

Stephen was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes church, and the U.S.S. Ranger alumni association. Stephen and Cheryl loved to travel around the world and attend U.S.S. Ranger reunions yearly. He was an avid Yankee’s Fan and golfer. He loved to cook, grill and to take cooking courses. Stephen enjoyed teaching his family and friends his special tricks of cooking. Stephen found great joy and peace surrounded by family and friends. He lit up any room he entered with his big smile and great sense of humor.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, June 30th from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St followed by his funeral service at 10:30 am. Burial with U.S. Navy honors will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in his name can be made to the Visiting Nurse Association, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, 01608.
