Shirley Jean (O’Neal) Warren, 95, passed away peacefully in the care of her loving family on Saturday, October 15, 2022 after an illness. She was born in Medford on September 27, 1927 and grew up in the Boston area. Shirley was the daughter of the late Raymond M. and Ellen (Donovan) O’Neal. She was married in 1947 to her beloved husband of 72 years, Frederick S. Warren, who passed away in 2019. Shortly after their marriage they began their life together in Storrs, CT. and later lived for several years in Holden before moving to Rutland in 1962, where they operated a farm situated on 188 acres.

She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her six children, Frederick Warren, Jr. of Louisville, KY, Stephen Warren and his wife, Connie of Storrs, CT, Gordon Warren of Hyannis, Dorothy Tsotsis and her husband, Michael of Rutland, Judith Curtin of Holden, and Katherine Cammuso and her husband, Paul of Rutland; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Shirley was predeceased by her brother, R. Gordon O’Neal.

She will also be lovingly missed by Emmy Kyeremeh, who for the past year and a half has been Shirley’s compassionate friend and caregiver. The family would like to thank Emmy for her wonderful care of Shirley.

Shirley enjoyed reading a good book, painting, or traveling the country in a camper, but her passions in life were her family and her faith. She was a devout member of the St. Patrick Church in Rutland, where she was involved in many volunteer groups. Shirley was a sixty-year member of the Holden Grange. However, Shirley cherished her role as a mother and grandmother the most. She rarely missed any of her husband’s and children’s many events. Spending time with family was paramount. Family holidays and birthdays as well as family reunions on Highland Lake in N.H. were especially important. Shirley was the backbone of the family and the memories she left her loved ones are countless.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 20th at 11:00 am at St. Patrick Church, 258 Main St., Rutland. Shirley will be laid to rest next to her husband, Fred, at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to St. Patrick Church or to the charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction and care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
