Subscription Update Obituary

Shirley A. (DiCenzo) Battelle, 82 of Worcester passed away peacefully on Monday, October 18, 2021, in CareOne at Millbury surrounding by her loving family. Her husband of 40 years, Leonard J. Battelle died in 1997.

Shirley was born on June 4, 1939, in Worcester, Massachusetts and was preceded in death by her parents, Pierino DiCenzo and Nellie (Patruno) DiCenzo. Shirley worked in housekeeping at Worcester State Hospital for many years.

Shirley is survived by her two daughters, Donna M. Gallagher and her husband John and Gina Tashjian and her husband Steven; a son, Gary Battelle and his wife Sharon; two sisters, Mildred “Millie” Bassan and Eileen Biziewski; nine grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by a brother, Joseph DiCenzo and a sister, Carol Nassif.

Shirley played in The Sons of Italy Bocce League for many years. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Golden Years, she enjoyed playing bingo, bowling and loved spending the holidays with her grandchildren.

Calling hours for Shirley will be held on Friday, October 22, 2021, from 9:30-11am, Her services to follow at 11am in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
