Sandra Gale Solomon, 75, of Worcester, died Friday, August 13, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospital after an illness.

Sandy was born in Worcester, daughter Hilmar E. and Christine A. (Franson) Solomon, and lived in Worcester most of her life.

She was a 1957 graduate of the former High School of Commerce. Later, she completed a program at the Worcester Industrial Technical Institute for medical assistants.

She worked for 32 years for the Thom McAn shoe company in Worcester until the company left Worcester. For the past 19 years, she has worked at the Home Depot in Auburn. Sandy was incredibly hard working and was also employed for a period by Polar Beverages and the Small Business Service Bureau. She greatly enjoyed the friendships she developed with her co-workers throughout her life.

Sandy also had a devotion to Persian cats. She bred them, trained them and prepared them for shows with remarkable results. Her love of animals also led her to help rescue dogs.

Sandy leaves her partner of 35 years, John Scales; a sister-in-law Shirley Solomon; nieces and nephews.

There will be a calling hour Thursday, August 19, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. in St. Bernard’s Church, 228 Lincoln St., Worcester. Burial in Worcester County Memorial Park will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Sandy’s name may be made to the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden St., Worcester, MA 01520.
