Subscription Update Obituary

Roland R. Barrette, 86, of Worcester passed away Saturday Sept. 14, 2024 in UMASS – Memorial Medical Center, University Campus.

Roland is survived by his wife of 63 years, Claire (Maynard) Barrette, two sons, Jeffrey S. Barrette and his wife Karen of Florida and Bruce M. Barrette and his wife Melissa of Southbridge; four grandchildren, Lauren, Cassandra, David and Joshua, two brothers, Raymond and Richard Barrette, eight sisters, Pauline Ethier, Alice LeDuc, Cecile Leclerc, Jeanne Boffi, Theresa Pelland, Helen Cloutier, Rita Martin and Susanne Theroux and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Ernest, Gerard and Emile Barrette. Roland was born in Woonsocket, RI., a son of the late Noé and Irene (Proulx) Barrette. He was a graduate of Woonsocket High School and has lived in Worcester for many years.

Mr. Barrette was a machinist 22 years for Neles Jamesbury Co. and retired in 1999. Roland was a member and usher at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, West Boylston and was a volunteer many years with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was previously a longtime active member of the former Holy Name of Jesus Parish. He was also a member of the Greendale Retired Men’s Club. Roland was a skilled woodworker and carpenter. After he retired Roland worked 20 years as a funeral assistant primarily with Dirsa – Morin Funeral Homes.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024 from DIRSA – MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton Street with a Mass at 11:00 A.M. in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester Street West Boylston. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours in the funeral home are Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers contributions in Roland’s memory may be made to your local St. Vincent de Paul Society.
