Rocco M. “Rocky” Novia, 82, of Worcester, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 26th, surrounded by his family in The Memorial Hospital.
Rocky is survived by his beloved wife and partner of 59 years, Agnes M. (Gibree) Novia; his son and best friend, David M. Novia and his wife Kathleen of Worcester; two grandsons, Michael D. and Ryan J. Novia; two sisters, Mary Aramento and Antoinette “Toni” Novia both of Worcester; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Two brothers, Peter and Louis Novia and three sisters, Rachel Zona, Rose Tateronis and Anna Novia pre deceased him. He was born in Worcester. Rocky was a son of Michael and Mary L. (DiPasquale) Novia. He graduated from Worcester Public Schools, served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and has lived here all his life.
For over 25 years, Rocky and his brother Lou co-owned and operated Lou-Roc’s Diner on West Boylston St. In the years to follow, before his retirement in 1993, he was Chef Manager at Bancroft School. Rocky also worked many years alongside his son, Dave, owner of Wilson Bowling and Sporting Supply.
Rocky was a founding member and usher of St. Joan of Arc Church. A member of the West Boylston Businessmen’s Association and the Harold Keith Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars in West Boylston. Rocky was an avid bowler. He was a member of the West Boylston Businessmen’s Bowling league and the Craftsman bowling league. He and his wife loved to spend time on the Cape at their home in Dennisport. He most enjoyed his family especially his grandsons, their involvements, accomplishments and activities.
Rocky’s celebration of life funeral will be held Wednesday, August 30th, from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Church, 570 Lincoln St. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Friends and relatives may visit with the family, Tuesday, August 29th, 4-8 p.m., in the funeral home.
