Subscription Update Obituary

Robert “Bob” A. Benoit, 80, of Chapel Street, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, August 11, 2010.

He leaves his wife of 28 years, Christina “Tina” E. (Beatty) Benoit; five children, Michael Benoit of Thailand, Daniel Benoit of Worcester, Jessica Duquette of Roswell, GA, Jonathan Benoit of Holden and Jodi Benoit of Connecticut; a sister, Dorothy Murray of Florida; five grandchildren, Travis and Devin Benoit, Joshua, Maren and Deegan Duquette; and many nephews and nieces. Three brothers, Clarence, Edward and Donald Benoit, predeceased him. He was born and raised in Worcester, the son of Alfred and Marie (Brodeur) Benoit, and has lived in Holden for the last 55 years.

In 1948, he graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served as a radio operator in Korea, 230th Infantry, where he fought in the Battle of Pork Chop Hill earning two bronze stars. After the war, he worked for General Motors and then Wyman Gordon. In 1957, he received his master’s electrical license and opened his own business, Benoit Electric, which he owned until his retirement in 2000. Bob was a member of St. George’s Church and enjoyed dancing and watching his children and grandchildren play sports.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 13th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 14th, in St. George’s Church, 40 Brattle Street, Worcester. Burial will be private in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts Chapter, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472; or the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445.
